Sleeping in Calgary Airport: Terminal, Concourses, and Hotels
Calgary International Airport operates 24 hours, and passengers do spend the night in its terminal. Whether you should depends on how long you have, how much rest you need, and whether the price of a real bed a few hundred metres away changes the maths.
Sleeping in the terminal
YYC has a single terminal organised into five concourses: A, B and C for domestic flights, D for international departures, and E for flights to the United States, which clear US preclearance in Calgary. The public landside areas stay open all night and security generally leaves resting passengers alone. The usual caveats apply: most seating has armrests, announcements and cleaning continue overnight, and the building runs cool in the small hours. Departures-level benches fill up during winter storm disruptions, when the terminal hosts far more sleepers than it was designed for. Keep documents secured and set an alarm with margin: security queues build quickly for the first departure bank from about 4:00 am.
No sleep pods, but two hotels inside the airport
YYC has no sleep-pod installations. What it has instead is rarer: two full-service hotels inside the terminal complex. Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel is a short walk from baggage claim, with a heated indoor pool, a spa and a 24-hour fitness centre. Delta Hotels Calgary Airport In-Terminal is the simpler and usually cheaper of the two, with soundproofed rooms and a 24-hour gym. For anything past a short doze, walking to one of these beats any bench in the building.
Hotels a shuttle ride away
If both in-terminal hotels are full or priced above your budget, seven nearby hotels run free shuttles. The Westin Calgary Airport is two kilometres out; Hampton Inn by Hilton Calgary Airport North and Hotel 11 by Sonesta Calgary Airport are about five minutes away, and Hampton’s shuttle runs 24 hours. Holiday Inn Express Airport Calgary, Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Airport and Sandman Signature Calgary Airport Hotel also operate 24-hour shuttles from the south side of the airport. Hyatt Place Calgary Airport runs its shuttle from 5:00 am to midnight. Confirm pickup points on arrival; several hotels publish exact door and pillar numbers.
Getting between concourses
